  Dr. Trejos is an accomplished internist with a passion for the challenges of primary care, from helping patients focus on healthier lifestyles to diagnosing and treating the most esoteric diseases. Above all, he focuses on creating strong doctor-patient relationships, which he sees as essential for high-quality care. "I want to make a difference in patients' lives by offering the most appropriate health services and coordinated multispecialty care to improve their quality of life," says Dr. Trejos.   Since he was a young boy, Dr. Jorge Alfonso exhibited the qualities of a caring, knowledgeable doctor. “I took pride in helping family members and neighbors clean, disinfect and dress their wounds,” he says. “I always derived a great sense of accomplishment by knowing that I was able to make a difference by caring for and healing them.” Dr. Alfonso enjoys spending quality off-time with his wife and son. He also participates in sports and likes to read and travel. One of his favorite places to visit is Hawaii, where he hopes to visit again one day with his family.

  Dr. Nelson Castañeda is a board-certified physician who specializes in internal medicine. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami in Coral Gables and his doctorate from the Universidad Central del Caribe in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. Dr. Castañeda is a member of the American College of Physicians; he is fluent in English and Spanish. “By providing patients with quality medical care, I hope to help them live longer, healthier lives and retain their independence,” Dr. Castañeda said. “My goal is not only to provide them with the best quality medical care possible, but to treat them as I would my own family.”

  Dr. Silvana Gonzalez-Reiley combines her medical expertise with empathy and compassion for her patients to deliver continuity of care. She is especially proficient in treating complex health issues and counseling patients so they can live more fully and as free from complications as possible. “I’ve wanted to do this since high school,” says Dr. Reiley. “Patient care itself is what I enjoy most about my job.” Dr. Reiley leads an active lifestyle. When she has time off, she enjoys outdoor sports, and martial arts. Traveling to new countries and unwinding with a good science fiction novel are also some of her favorite things to do.

  Dr. Daniel Guerra earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami and his doctorate from the Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He completed his internal medicine residency and sleep medicine fellowship at the University of Miami/ Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Guerra specializes in sleep medicine and medical informatics. “What I enjoy most about my profession is gaining the trust of my patients and being able to help them,” said Dr. Guerra. “I make a difference in their lives by helping them understand their disease processes and how to better manage them.”

  Jose Cofino is a family nurse practitioner and a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Havana in Cuba and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Florida Atlantic University. He earned his master’s degree in nursing from Barry University in Miami. Prior to joining Chen, Jose was a nurse supervisor at Vitas Innovative Hospice Care where he identified physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs for terminally ill patients and their families. Jose is fluent in English and Spanish.

  Since Dr. Jennifer Castilloux was young, she’s always been interested in science. “All the complexities of the human body and pathology piqued my interest,” Dr. Castilloux says. Specializing in internal medicine, Dr. Castilloux rounds in skilled nursing facilities in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. “I chose to work with seniors because I believe they deserve a physician that will advocate for their needs, especially if they are unable to do so for themselves. I take time to make sure my patients really understand what’s going on with them and teach them about prevention so they can regain control of their health and take better care of themselves,” Dr. Castilloux adds.

  Internal medicine physician Elizabeth Vilches-Olivera earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami and her doctorate from the Universidad Central Del Caribe School of Medicine in Bayamón, Puerto Rico. She completed her internal medicine residency at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. Caring for senior patients is dear to Dr. Vilches-Olivera’s heart. “Seniors are a diverse group of patients, with very rich experiences,” she said. “Throughout my residency these were the patients that left an extraordinary mark and helped me grow as a physician.”

  Maria Pinto Rodriguez, MD

  Dr. Maria Pinto Rodriguez has always had a special bond with seniors. As a primary care physician, she strives to thank them and somehow repay them for what they have done for their families and for society. “I treat my patients with the love and dedication they deserve and let them know how they impact my life,” says Dr. Rodriguez. “My goal is to keep them as healthy as possible so they are able to enjoy their families and friends.” Dr. Rodriguez and her husband have a daughter. When Dr. Rodriguez isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with family and friends. She would like to visit the Holy Land; she sees it as a place for personal reflection and for many cultures and backgrounds to be united.

  Since childhood, Dr. Jessica M. Montes was taught to respect elders. That grew into full-on advocacy when she became a geriatric physician. “At times, the senior population tends to be overlooked, which makes it even more important to focus on their well-being and health,” Dr. Montes shares. “For me, it’s an honor and privilege to provide the best care possible and work with them to improve quality of life.” When not caring for patients or keeping up with the latest research, Dr. Montes loves to spend time with family and friends, go out to eat, watch movies, attend local events, visit the beach and travel. While Paris, France, tops her favorites, she hopes to one day visit Maldives, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Morocco, Iceland and Japan.

  Erika Cox

  Doctor Erika Cox is double board certified in family medicine, and integrative and holistic medicine. She earned her medical degree at Central University of Venezuela, Luis Razetti Medical School, in Caracas, Venezuela, and completed her family practice residency at Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley, California. She also completed a fellowship in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona School of Medicine in Tucson, Arizona. “I love caring for people and helping them live the best life they can,” says Dr. Cox. “I focus on prevention so my patients can have a good quality of life.” When she is not working, Dr. Cox likes spending time with her husband and their two daughters, walking in nature and practicing yoga. She also enjoys reading and traveling.

  Dr. Zaddy Lafourcade Prada is a board-certified family medicine physician who’s been passionate about helping people in need since she was a child. “I believe seniors deserve special attention,” she says “and I feel privileged support them.” To her, that means making time to truly listen, helping keep medical conditions under control, and providing strong social support. “Being able to significantly improve my patients’ quality of life is the most satisfying experience,” Dr. Lafourcade Prada adds. When she is not with patients or keeping up with medical research, Dr. Lafourcade Prada enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and friends. She also likes to explore other places, and hopes to visit the Maldive Islands one day.

  Meylin Lam Hernandez

  Since elementary school, Dr. Meylin Lam Hernandez has loved medicine and helping seniors any way she can. Focusing on their health is especially rewarding for her. “I enjoy connecting with my patients and giving them the opportunity to tell me everything they need,” says Dr. Lam Hernandez, who is board certified in both family medicine and sleep medicine. “I also try to explain things in a simple way and inspire lifestyle changes for better health and prevention.” Aside from work and medical research, Dr. Lam Hernandez likes to spend time with her husband and kids, do craft projects, dance, go to the beach, and travel to experience different cultures. One of her favorite destinations is the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee.

  From very early on, Dr. German Lafaurie had a love of science and desire to help people. It was clear that practicing medicine was his calling. It’s a way to honor them, and I enjoy their wisdom and approach to life.” In addition to establishing good relationships, Dr. Lafaurie likes to help patients take an active role in managing their health. “Seeing how a plan of care has improved their lives is very rewarding,” Dr. Lafaurie adds. When he’s not in the office, Dr. Lafaurie enjoys quality time with his wife and son, playing sports and traveling. Once day, he would love to visit Morocco.

  Reynier Pomares Castillo

  It was a childhood dream of Dr. Reynier Pomares Castillo to become a physician. “I love to help people and make them feel comfortable, healthy, and happy,” he says. He places emphasis on preventative and value-based care. Dr. Castillo loves serving the senior population. “I love advocating for them,” he says. He views his patients as family, rather than merely patients. “In my opinion, with communication and empathy, you can build trust. This is the key to creating a solid relationship with our patients,” he says. In his free time, Dr. Castillo loves taking road trips with his family. One day, he wants to drive coast to coast. He also enjoys playing chess and is a member of the United States Chess Federation.

  Dr. Margarita Perez Caminero has always put her community first.
